TECSIA EVANS

BIO

Dr. Tescia Evans is the founder and Artistic Director for Ross Dance Company, a professional Christian praise dance company in Oakland, CA. She is a director, choreographer, dancer, and instructor. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Dance from the University of California, Berkeley and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from California School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Evans first began her dance training with a local All-Star Dance organization that included Hollie and Heather Bettencourt. Dr. Evans writes “it was truly an honor to have studied under and with STRUT directors Heather and Hollie Bettencourt. I learned invaluable lessons that have helped mold me into the dancer and director I am today.”  After her introduction to dance through the All Stars, DR. Evans went on to study with Carol Murota, Lisa Wymore, Joe Goode, David McCauley, and Derrick Minter, rehearsal director of Ailey II. She has now danced for over 14 years in jazz, modern, hip hop, and praise dance and her groundbreaking choreography has appeared in New York, Los Angeles and many venues in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has been teaching modern/jazz, and praise dance for studios in the Bay Area for over 11 years, was a part of the staff for the Alvin Ailey Dance Camp at UC Berkeley and is the founder of the Praise Dance Conferences & Festivals in Oakland, Sacramento and Los Angeles.  “I am truly blessed to have started my dance career with the Bettencourt’s and very proud to be an Alumnus of the All Stars and of STRUT as it has become a pillar and extraordinary dance studio within the community.”
